I don't think its BS. My dynamics systems and control professor at the University of Minnesota gave a presentation on this new technology last semester. He has worked with GM developing camless valvetrains. Its cool stuff.
I'm refering to 101's post about the developement of camless valvetrains. I do not believe that European automakers have this technology up to par quite yet to put into production vehicles. I may be mistaken though. It is being pursued however and it is interesting to think about the possiblities of having full dynamic control of valve events.
