please help...putting a timer on my fan switch I have a 98 Z/28 that I regularly bracket race. I have installed the fan switch that allows me to cool the car in the pits between rounds. Only problem is, if I leave it on too long....it runs down the battery. Anyone know how I would regulate this with some sort of timer I can set to turn them off? Any help would be appreciated.
Do you have a charger in the pits with you? I'm not sure how "serious" of a racer you are. Most i know trailer their cars and have generators and what not... They just keep the fans and electric water pump running with the battery charger connected ready for the next run.
Other than that... search for automotive timer relays on google. There should be plenty of choices.
Also: the RV world has tons of battery monitors and protection devices meant to cut off power if a battery drops below a certain voltage. Usually 10.5 Volts. This would be enough for you to start your car back up and recharge with alternator.

I haven't tuned a 98...but on the 99+ cars, you can program them to keep the fans off for a set amount of time after the car is shut down if it was warmer than a specific coolant threshold...is this not the case on a 98?
