Default A\C compressor housing to mount vacuum pump

Ive had no luck with finding a bracket I like to mount a vacuum pump to my ls3. Ive looked at the GZ kit which is the easiest option when it comes to a "complete kit", but I dont like the hoses, or the location where the pump actually goes. I also looked at the moroso kit which was ok but by the time you buy all the required mounts and such your well over 1400 and thats not including the hoses and fittings. I contacted aerospace and star and they dont offer ls direct fit components.

So this got me thinking, what about taking an old a\c compressor and taking the guts out of it. Use what i can to make a mount for the vacuum pump in the stock ac location. Seems feasible!

So first off has anyone done this? Lets hear some thoughts, Pro's, Cons?
Are the mounting bosses on the block the same for the ls1 and ls3? anyone know? what about the truck engines?
