Default Extrude Hone LT1 Heads

In the past I have always heard that polishing the intake port was bad because it interfered with fuel mixture.

Since the new LT1 is direct injection I would think that polishing or extrude honing the intake port is no longer taboo.

I think DI on the LT1 opens up many possibilities on the intake side of things, what are y'alls thoughts?

As far as I'm concerned, rough intake ports like the battery on a concrete floor are just old Mechanic's tales. I have been porting Heads since the 70's and I polish them like a mirror intake , exhaust , and combustion chamber. I have heared all the bullshit about the fuel dropping out of suspension and puddling up on the polished surfaces, and causing it to run ragged and load up.If someone has them problems its not polished ports but the Carburetor tuning.

I'll disagree bud. Porting/Polishing to induce intake port velocity is an excellent measure for air speed and flow. However, when fuel is added to this air flow (drops or puddling from a carb'd applic), it becomes heavy and dynamically can tumble air flow and create/ worsen lean cylinder feed..... thus creating less static air flow. Carb'd applications need some sort of scuffing to break up any droplets that lead to puddling. I think many of us inherently/admittedly over-carb our cars back in the day, which always handed us our tuning issues and carbon-rich, black plugs. So, any carb thats well tuned can still leave droplets at the base of an intake....thats part of the design of it really, no matter how well you leave the tune!

We learned about this in school and its the same principle as a golf ball. The tiny little divots hold air pockets, and air sliding over air is less friction than air over metal. Less friction = more flow

a slightly rough port surface will move more air faster than a smooth and shiny one. think like air. air likes to stick to the walls and flow over itself.
