Default fabricating an oil pan

I am Going to be building a front sump oil for my car using the stock Lm7 pan as a base flange. What I'm wondering is how much space is essential underneath the stock truck windage tray for proper oiling and draining into the sump?

Just cut the pan off at the flange, turn it around and weld it back up.

Your question is kinda a bit odd. Just make sump correct capacity and ensure a bit of angle to let oil drain to bottom
