Smaller rod journals in LS?

Has anyone used smaller rod journals in any LS build? I know this can get expensive, and probably not much return for the money, but it has to help in quick reving, high rpm, N/A applications.

Expensive, Yes! I believe they use a 1.8 honda journal.

would most of the hp gains be in better crank harmonics ,or higher rpms hp ?

Through lower friction, so I would say increased power throughout the range, though the increase would be minimal.

I wouldnt know for sure on the crank harmonics, but as mentioned reduces friction and lowers reciprocating weight. Every little bit helps for turning high RPM.

It's one of those things where you're leaving no stone unturned in your build. I would say if you're porting stock heads and using a hyd roller then you can't justify the expense of smaller journals.

But if you're using state of the art heads and intake along with a llsr, vacuum pump, lightweight drivetrain etc. then I would think this would go on the list to look at.

Callies will usually offer a 2” journal as an option for their cranks and rods. I’ve put togeter a bunch of engines with them.

What's your impression of smaller journals? Do you feel it helps rev quicker?

Here you go.. one with honda journals in the classified section...

AL Main Caps = .001" MB

Hi All, the "Honda" LS crankshaft IS made for "class racing", one similar application is a "cup" engine specification.

The engine requirements ARE high RPM (9000+) AND LOW BMEP, thus no Turbos/SC/NOS.

The costs do do so is OVER 10,000 USD, the Billet Crankshaft@6K, the Billet Rods@3K, the .750" M-350 DLC pins@1K.

AL Main CAPS with "spacers" ???

I would STATE WHEN an AL billet main cap is fitted, the bearing Clearance MUST BE less than .001".

THEN there is the cost of the heads/valve train, I would fit the Mercury Racing FOUR Valve head conversion.
