This is a thread to document my design and build of some light weight suspension components for drag racing. I had a customer wanting some 2" extended A arms for his drift car, I kinda talked him in to doing uprights too. Then we switched gears and he has me just modify some Spohn A amrs instead. Which left me with material and no A arms for my drag car. I figured I might as well make my own then since no one really offers what I want (super light). Shock mount will be for coilovers and LBJ will be a rod end. Obviously all chromoly, the reason for the bigger tube on the main leg is that on the drift setup I was planning to run a 1" rod end. I need to do some calculations but I hope to use a 3/4 for my setup.
Im not digging the weight or the prices of the really good rod ends. Plus they are only rated around 3000# for axial/thrust load. So Im going to run these as LBJ (same as what we run on our race cars)
with this bearing FKSSX12T that is rated at 6750# axial/thrust static. Plus its 440 and 17-4 so it should last a really long time and the bearing is only $23. This should take about 2 pounds off the LBJ. Right now the pictured is 2.86 pounds
