Default Connecting Rods- On center?

How important is the LS1 on center connecting rod design considering regular small block chevy rods have a slight offset on the beams and have been used many times in LS1 engines. The only possible thing I can think of is the offset pushes the piston not exactly in the center possibly adding to wear on the piston. I have spoken with a couple of regarded machinist about it and they say it is of little importance/consequence. Is there a limit of when this becomes more important and on center only should be considered for the application. Please discuss. Thanks.

Pushing the pin in the center reduces side loading on both the piston and rod bearings, although it has worked satisfactorly fot years in the sbc why not when starting out with a clean sheet of paper design it correctly.also when using inboard pin forgings there is little room for a offset rod
