Gear design anyone out there know how to go about designing a gear. I am messing around with cad and would like to design a timing gear.

I haven't done it, but in Tech. Drawing class (a long time ago), it was based on the "involute".

A toothed gear is pretty straight forward. Just put a force on a single tooth and solve for shear at the reaction.. Cantaliever beam type problem.
