if you think about the curve of a intake port, you'll see that the air doesnt go straight down into the back of the valve.. rather, it goes around the stem and thru the back.... (yes thats an oversimplification but it conveys the general idea)

My dad actually told me a while ago that he developed a head with sperical valves but had a hard time sealing the "valves". I guess back 30 years ago no one made any material that would hold up. You would think today that someone like 3M or some other company would make a material that would hold up. Id like to see what a set of sperical heads made for the ls1 would do.
