Advancing a cam for higher DCR.
I have a TSP combo shortblock, heads cam ect. Before installing it I ran dcr calculations on the combo and saw that if i advanced the cam 4 degrees that I could pickup .30. Now everybodys saying that it would make more power under the curve that way but my question is "If you have the bigger intake 237 CCs Stage 2 LS6 heads like I bought shouldn't you try to run the cam straight up so you can take advantage of the higher flow potential of theses heads? If I advance it 4 degrees I would expect the cam to peak earlier.

The cam will peak earlier if you advance it. However, you would optimally like the cam to peak where the flow peaks. It's a trade-off. You can get more area under the curve while possibly sacrificing in the high lift/flow areas, or keep it straight up and gain peak numbers while possibly sacrificing at low lift. How much you will lose/gain in each situation will depend on the cam and heads and would be up to you to figure which is the best situation for your needs.
