Default intake ???

i was wondering what effet would it have on a engine if u had say a lsx intake but u took out the middle piece (or the runners) would it cause erratic engine behavior ? or would it even effect anything ?? and if not wouldnt it be better to take it out for more flow ?

I don't think that would be a good idea as the runners you want to take out are a tuned length. I would say you are going to cause a ton of turbulence and kill velocity to gain cfm, but the gain in cfm isn't going to help you due to killing the other two characteristics of the intake. Just my opinion i'm not an engineer so.....

The intake runner length, cross sectional area, taper, plenum volume, runner volume for all the GM LS series manifolds have been designed using very sophisticated computer analysis to have a responsive engine, broad power band, etc. The FAST manifold was designed primarily by Wilson Manifolds to improve on the technology of the LS1/LS6 intake and represents a lot of technology to bring about 20 to 30 more HP at peak (compared to the LS1/LS6. Someone who is very knowledgeable about the airflow/aerodynamics of cylinder heads and intakes, can coax a few more HP out of a FAST via porting. I don't know if these statements help or not, but bottom line, trying to chop out this or that on an intake to improve flow would result in a reduction of power and drivability. Probably a significant reduction.

so the runner kinda stabilize incoming air and directs it at the intake port ? so u loss of cfm flow but gain velocity ?

Yes in a very generic way of looking at it. But there are so many factors at play here as steve bryant said it is a very complicated matter that many engineers have put a lot of time and money into researching. My best advice would be to just leave it the pro's on this one. I would almost to got as far as you might even lose CFM by messing with it thats how well its designed.

CETA TransAm,
Do some searching and researching both here and and on the internet in general on intake manifold design. You'll learn a lot if you just take the time to do so. I'll include a couple of links that I found on Google in the first minute or so:

i was just wondering about cuz they make those sheet metal intakes and they dont have any internal design and very short runners

thanks for info ill check those sites out
