Default Extream technical LS1 questions.. where do I go?

I am looking for some serious engineering questions, can anyone point me in the right direction? I want to prototype a new engine and I am looking for starters for information such as the various internal combustion pressures and temperatures, the affects EGR has on a clean, complete burn, an estimation on how much power is lost from the use of oxygen sensors cycling pulse width modulation from over lean to over rich, estimated power loss from incomplete combustion chamber sealing, and maybe some more info. Any info would be savage, thanks. I like working with specs of ls1 or lsx engines because they are good engines and I am very in-tune with their capabilities and comparable performance as apposed to some other random engine.

If you could get deeply into the OEM powertrain development folks you would find the type of information you seek. Your chances of doing that are slim, I'm afraid.

I would reccomend a book "engineering fundamentals of the internal combustion engine" You'll be able to find reasonable answers to just about every question you have above.

slp - - firehawk,
I agree with Old SStroker and Alvin. Also, GM Powertrain has published some technical papers that are available through SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) on the Gen III/IV small block or emission systems or engine/powertrain control. However, the really fine details won't be published there because GM (or any other manufacturer) will treat this type of information as their intellectual property and they won't share it. Also, an analysis of some of GM's patents (do a search and expect to spend a lot of hours) will give you some insight.

I agree...a friend of mine that works for GM always has to stop talking when I start asking him too many questions (I like learning)...non-disclosure agreements for the stuff he works on (mostly intake manifolds and some work on heads too) apply to work and to friends. I always feel bad when I do that to him, he's such a brilliant guy.

The patent research is some of the best advice I've seen...sometimes when he stops talking, he'll come back at me a little bit later and say "there's a patent that will help you understand some of that" and he'll help me find it.

Guys like that have their own forum, but read the rules carefully before posting. They can be very **** over there. They have a ton of OEM powertrain engineer info but they aren't racing engine gurus. For what you're asking about this is the best place I've ever found to ask. I go by Mechaniac over there, but I'm a fly on the wall.
