You are correct on the book. I believe it will be extremely intimidating to a non-science major. The first time or two through it was intimidating to me. Try to borrow a copy before you spend $100 on it.

Good luck.

The only reason I understood the "delta p" (now I know they are the same), is because I had read a good thread about it on HC50 a few months ago and since then I have seen it referenced more and more.

It is sort of liking buying a new vehicle because noone has it. Then, once you pull out of the parking lot, you see one pass you...

I would like to get some of those formulas and understand how it works.

It will be intimidating to me without a doubt, but I will also be getting it for a future reference to use for years to come.

Out of curiosity, I have seen you state (and others) how pricey the Blair software is. What kind of price are we looking at?

It depends on how many suites you buy. You could probably get a reasonable number of suites for 15-20 "large". One fella I know who uses it in his job doesn't have to worry about the cost. He probably even has Prof. Blair's cell number for "support".

If you put that kind of money into perspective, one year at a private Liberal Arts school will cost 1.5-2 times as much. Of course really good cam design software can run as much as the year of schooling. Some of it is quite easy to use and very intuitive. The caveat is you have to know what you need for valve motion before you ask the software to design a lobe/valvetrain. That part doesn't come with the documentation.

I liken this to CNC porting of heads. If you don't have an excellent port you just get very consistant sh!**y ports. They might even look pretty. The phrase "polishing a turd" comes readily to mind.

My never-humble opinion.
