How can you "overcam" your car?
depending on the lobes your cam guru says to use,and your power goals/target rpm range,i would be tempted to use something a little smaller..something like a 224/230,xer int,xe exhaust lobes for example..this is just a guess,i'm not a cam expert.
if your cam guru really know's what he's doing, then by all means listen to him..
i like smaller cams in general, especially if your exhaust restricted..
If you have a restrictive exhaust, you have backPRESSURE. Theres a much smaller window to pull an intake charge in from an area of slight pressure (on top an intake valve) to a lower pressure in the exhaust because as rpm and backpressure come up there isnt a lower pressure, backpressure starts to tilt your seesaw back. Usually as rpm comes up you can get momentum of intake charge to start moving more and more air, but with somethign exh restricted youll also see more and more backpressure as rpm comes up leveling the playing field. Sure you you were helping things a bit with the piston pulling on the door a bit on the way down the bore, but the exh valve will be open with some cam overlap letting that backpressure make a mess of things
Exhaust restriction suck, or they prevent it actually, which sucks
Granted the long runner ls intake keeps power capped to around 6300 as stated, but the exhaust as spec'd would simply detune that combo further unless an "over cammed" exhaust was used to recover some of the loss that those pipes create.
