Harlan Shift light install problem
2000Camaro SS. I dont get a power on flash. I hooked the power wire (22 guage wire from radio shack rated 300 volts) to the accessory fuse (blue 15) first and it didn't work. Then I tried the ASR switch (pink wire), still nothing.
I don't really know what the problem is. I know the fuses and ASR work cause the radio comes on and the ASR light is on. Do you think the problem is the wire Im using?
I ground the light to one of the screws in the driver side vent, and the tach wire is installed correctly.
I can just about assure you that ground is touching nothing but plastic up there.
Just the ground to something metal and obviously connected to the boady of the car. If you have the console off there are some screws that hold the shift boot on. Those go directly into the trans tunnel.
I can look up the ground wire in the ASR plug if you would prefer that as a ground

So you think the ground is the problem? Would an improper ground cause it not to work?

yes, most definately
for proper opperation, a solid power and ground connection is required

I got it to work Harlan. Just moved the ground to a different spot. Thanks for your help.

The issue w/ the wipers is noise in the electrical system. It only seems to happen w/ the wipers, and on f-bodies, go figure
I initially never noticed it, as i didn't drive the car in the rain. How things change
The fix is to add a capacitor on the 12V supply to the light. 100uF 25V electrolic. It's been fixed in the latest revision to the light.
You can get such a piece from radio shack. It's polarized so it needs to go in the right way. Just parallel it w/ the 12v and ground feed to the light.
I can send you one if you send me an address, or i can mod the light if you'd like. THe quickest solution is to get one at radio shack.
choice is yours

I was just curious if you knew what the problem was, that's all.
I've got to tell you, I can't count how many compliments I have gotten on the light. I mounted it in the defrost vent on the a-pillar and a lot of people ask if it was a factory option. I laugh and tell them no.
Once again, thanks for the great product.
My light comes on every once and while when my windsheild wipers are on and at about 1500 rpm or lower. Any idea how I can change this? It is more frequent when at idle with the delay set on the wipers if that helps...
I tapped the ASR switch if that helps also.
Drop me an email if you can:
