how to recondition chrome bumpers
how to recondition chrome bumpers im not entirely sure if this is where i should post this, but i have a bumper off my 70 elcamino, and it has some slight surface rust. i heard of people using like 1500 grit sand paper or something and then repolishing it. can anyone give me some advise, or direct me somewhere that i can find info on how to do this? thanks.
i just stumbled onto a web site and it said to use steel wool and a chrome cleaner/polisher. and to use a good amount rubbing in a circular motion, it will remove and surface rust but if it has gotten under the chrome then ther is nothing you can do.

Umm.... NO. Sanding and polishing will destroy the chrome. You need to have them re-dipped that is about all you can do when you have peeling or corrosion.
To the guy who said sanding and polishing, please don't suggest anything to people if you don't have a clue what your talking about. He very well could have done what you suggested and ruined his entire piece.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using chrome polish, and I have seen it take off a lot of surface rust I never thought would come off. I would not use sandpaper though. Just good chrome polish on a rag and lots of elbow grease.
