retro emblems
Hi,
I just received my 1970-1974 Z28 fender emblems in the mail today. My plan was to just cut the posts that would normally poke thru the fenders off, and then put on the car with 3M emblem tape. However, the emblems are die-cast, and have a bit of a hollow space on the back side. I am afraid that they will not adhere to the tape well enough to stick to the fender. I know I have seen these exact emblems on cars posted on this site before (as well as the 1969 emblems), and I was just wondering exactly how you did it, and if you have had any trouble.

Re: retro emblems
Thanks for the TTT paiN, but I believe I have it worked out. I remembered a lady's husband I used to work with manages a body shop. I contacted him for a suggestion, and he is going to have one of his guys do it for me for like $20 (as props to the shop). He is going to install the emlems thru the fender. Thanks again for the call out though.

Re: retro emblems
Just a thought but you could fill the hollow spots on the back side of the emblem with opoxy or something then sand it flat so you get the extra surface for adhesion.
let see some pics when your done.
good luck

Re: retro emblems
I just used the tape and it worked fine for me. I was surprised the '69 emblem stayed on my front grill...but it's still on there good after a year.

Re: retro emblems
Thanks for the replys guys,
I am going to use the 3M tape/JB Weld method on the emblem over the back bumper. The fender emblems turned out really nice.

When I put on my 70s emblems the back one i drilled 2 holes and put it in that way. The side ones i cut the pegs off and taped them on. The rear center section is really east to get off. Once you take it off you wont believe how much dirt is stuck in there. I think i had like 5lbs of dirt in there

Re: retro emblems
I responded to one of your posts with some more pictures. I've got Sportlines w/ KYB AGX (8 way adjustable) shocks. I really like the combo, and they do pretty well at the track - high 1.8 short times with F1s and stock converter. They are a bit harsh on rough roads, but I really like the way they handle and the way the car sits. I mentioned this in the other thread, but I may be going to a different setup, so if you decide on the sportlines I could sell you mine and the shocks for a good deal.

Re: retro emblems
I stuck mine on also with 3m tape never had any problems. Been on the car for a year!. Only thing is after you cut off the mounting post. MINE dont know what year, had a bend to them. So i put it between two pieces of 2x4 and stepped on them to straighten them out. Picked them up from a swap meet....
