Default turn signal keeps burning out

Any Formula owners out there ever have problems with their turn signals burning out?
My passenger side front turn signal light went out last week so I replaced it over the weekend. Now less than 5 days later the new bulb I just put in Saturday went out too

Could this just be an unlucky coincidence, or should I look into potential other electrical problems that may be causing this?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, Booker I talked to a buddy of mine at work and he suggested checking out the fuse that governs the turn signal lamps. I'll check it out at lunchtime and see if it is blown...

I have the same problem but mine is in a Trans Am and I have problems keeping condensation out of mine.... Water collects in the housing and when the bulb gets hot they blow out.... I am going to look into getting a whole new housing and this tim I will prolly make em water proof b/c now my connections have gotten rusty!!!!

Josh S.

P.S. put some electrical grease on the end of the buld.... it should help some corrosion if that problem occurs with you

I noticed some grease on the bulb that I took out - but the bulb I replaced it with I put in dry I guess i should have thought about that electrical grease stuff.

Thanks for the input, I'm going to change the bulb AGAIN this weekend - and keep my finger's crossed

I've only had to replace one front turn signal in nearly 5 years...

Did you get an 'exact match' on the part number or a cross referenced bulb?
I was able to find an exact part match..no problems.
Grease or no grease..
(TURN SIGNAL BOOGERS!!)
I just replaced it directly..no troubles...

If you have a crack in the lens, then water/moisture is getting into the socket and shorting it out. I just fixed this problem on my T/A last week. The crappy part about it is that my car is out of warranty. The lens was about $35.00 and the socket was an unbelievable $85.00.

Oh BTW, this same problem shorted out my horns too.

I checked the lens, and everything seems fine But I do have a feeling that moisture had something to do with the signal burning out.

Funny thing is, the driving light element in the light still works. Just the higher intensity element used for the turn signal has blown out each time.

Check the wiring to be sure that it's not grounding. I had this happen on my '96 Firebird.

Thanks for the all the replies, guys!

I got under the car this morning and took the problem bulb out and found that it was NOT blown out (?).

So then I checked the socket it went into and cleaned off the terminals as best as I could with a Q-tip. Then I cleaned up the bulb and it's terminals (used gloves and a clean rag), put some fresh dielectric grease on the bulb and put it back in - VIOLA! It worked!

I guess the problem was a combination of a bad connection plus some sloppiness on my part the first time around.

At least all seems well now - live and learn

Thanks again for the support

-Brad

P.S.: as long as I had my car up on jack stands (again) - I went ahead and replaced the orange turn signal / driving lights with some Hyper-White blue bulb lights from APC no more orange daytime running lamps for me!

I had the same problem with my 98. My bulbs were only lasting about a week or two before they would burn out. So all I did was take out the blinker housings, and drill a couple small holes in the bottoms to let some of the water run out and it seems to be getting the job done. It’s been almost 3 months now and none of them have burnt out or even started to discolor. You may want to give this a shot before you go blow 70bux on something that is just going to break again in a year or so.
