Default School me on racing seats.

I want to know what you know.

Whats the cost effective race seat?
What do i need to mount the seat in my car?
Where do i get them?

I dont want to spend a ton of money on seats, but do i need to ?

I want light seats. Light as in weight. Black maybe with a little red.

What do stock seats weigh?

Can i use the stock seat belt, i dont like the harness.

I don't know much about racing seats, but what i Can tell you is that you could use the stock seat belts if you want. You would have to attach your plastic seat belt guide from your stock seats onto your racing seats though. Any other way of "rigging" up the seat belt is usually unsafe.

Well you asked alot of questions all at once there. The first thing you need to figure out is just how much money you are WILLING to spend on seats. That is going to decide just what you are in the market for. I see you said you dont want to spend a ton....but try to come up with a number.......500....1000....1500...

As far as mounting it in your car. I think every seat manufacture has a set of universal seat rails that they sale also....You will need a set of seat rails and then it shouldnt be a big deal. As far as weight.....if you have a power seat....then race seats will save you alot of weight...just removing the motor alone is a good weight savings.

for 500 for the pair...your options are limited.....i would go ahead and look on ebay.....you arent going to find many other places with seats for 500 a set.

500 bucks will get you a nice set of racing seats..

racing seats range in weight from 7lbs or so all the way up to 25lbs each..

cost they range anywhere between 40$ or so a seat all the way up to 3-400$ per seat..

as far as mounting, sometimes you can buy brackets from companies, these usually run about 40 bucks.. or you can make your own custom brackets.. which isnt hard, i did this in my car..

some seats you will need slip on covers for, some you wont..

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...rm=kirkey+seat

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...hTerm=jeg+seat

those will be some of the lightest you will find... IMO the kirkeys will be more comfortable, but the JEGS are more budget friendly.. you can buy brackets or custom make your own.. and they both have slip on covers you can or can not buy.. your decision..

BTW.. you can go to autozone and get 3 rolls of their lite weight carpet and some spray adhesive..

the carpet will run you about 35 bucks and the spray adhesive will run you about 10 bucks..
takes about an hour to put in, looks good and is VERY lite.

Ive seen sets go for 2-3k. 400 for a pair is cheap.
How much do you drive the car? I would be careful about what you may buy, I would want to at least sit in the seats before buying them.

kirkeys are the most popular for weight savings. you can take a hole cutter and take even more weight out of them...

yea but if you swiss them your talking about saving another 1 lb.. they arent as comfortable and if you go to resell them they arent worth as much..

kirkeys run about 135 or so a piece.. the brackets are like 45-50 bucks.. and the covers (I would HIGHLY recommend them) are like 85 a piece..
they do not recline, and are not too comfortable, i would not suggest DD them.
