? about component speakers
I went to a couple of places and they said that to install components, u need to have the car rewired cuz of the monsoon system. I have never messed with component speakers, I've only dealt with sub, amps, and deck installs. What is the deal with this and how do I rewire it my self?

Re: ? about component speakers
i do recall hearing that if you replace the fbody speakers you need to replace the amp as well.. which is probley a good idea since the Monsoon amp is pretty dirty..
Any stereo experts out there???

Re: ? about component speakers
The wiring for the Monsoon system is complete crap. They use way too many wires to do the job and they are all tiny. It is real easy to rewire these cars. I would recommend pulling as much of the Monsoon crap out of your car and then doing the system yourslef. If you want something symple than you can use an aftermarket cd player (or whatever) with at least 45 watts per channel and run speaker wires from the deck to the doors and the rear speakers. What I would do, especially if you want good clean sound and dont mind the extra cash and work.....is to get a good 4 or 5 channel amp and another 1-2 channel amp for the sub(s) (if you dont get a 5 channel to run the whole thing) find a place to stick them and run 3-sets (front, rear, non-fading) of RCA's (Pheonix gold, Monster, Lightning, etc....they can make a real big diff in the sound) and then run the speakers back from whereever you put the amps to the doors and rears or whereever you put the speakers. You will get your best sound by far using an external amp for all speakers and allowing the deck to do the signal stuff. As for speaker locations...my '95 (I miss her ) I had a set of 3-ways up front...6.5" in the door, 4" and tweeter in custom kick panels....it sounded awesome. Everything is what your imagination, $$$, time, and constraints can come up with. You can check out the trunk of my old cam here: http://www.ignitionsyndicate.com/shannon/
And if you some pics of the kick panels I can email you some if you want.

Re: ? about component speakers
If your going to redo your stereo I highly suggest getting rid of ALL the speakers in the back. get a good set of components (if you have the money Focal 165k2's are SWEET) they can handle 200 watts RMS... I'm pushing mine with a rockford fosgate 800.4 bridged to 2 channels and the sound is simply amazing. Instead of the shitty 4" speakers in the back put a 10" sub or 2 (depending on how much bass you want)

Re: ? about component speakers
I agree with everyone else, rip out all of the old monsoon stuff. I am going with 6.5" jl audio components (XR series of course) up front in the doors (I may use the jl coax speakers, but components sound best). I am going to take the woofers out of the side panels of the rear seat and put in either jl audio 6.5" coax or jl audio 6.5" woofer. I am not even going to run any speakers in the back except for a sub (jl audio 10w3 in a stealth box). For amps I have a Precision Power 4x80 for the speakers and a Precision Power 2x200 for the sub (I know the amp is big, but I may use 2 subs later, plus I already had the amp). All of this should sound 100% better and none of it is too extravagant. Know one will even be able to tell I have done anything, except for the awesome sound.
