Re: CE Wheels on Red Formula
Hey VAWJ,
Who makes those? I tried the phoenix link and couldn't find them. Maybe I should try the phone number huh? I was fixing to buy these <img src="http://www.afswheels.com/firebird_wheels/index.asp" alt="" /> until i saw yours. Can you tell me if they are the same or if there are some differences from yours? thanks.

Re: CE Wheels on Red Formula
Maple Red: The AFS wheels are not the wheels I have. Those are the ZR1 type wheel with a black powdercoat finish. I wanted an OEM quality wheel with a finish I know would last. Thats why I decided on actual CE wheels, center caps, and lugnet covers shipped directly from GM. Phoenix Pontiac is a dealership whose parts manager Gene Culley sells GM parts by phone. Just click on the link and call the Parts Dept number on the homepage. Then ask for Gene and he will hook you up with the details.
The price breakdown is as follows:
Wheels 259. per
Centercaps 9. per
Lug Covers appx 1.5 per (GM shipped 3 extra <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> )
Tires 160. per
Here is a link to more pics so you can get a better idea of the end result.

If you have anymore questions just ask.

Man, these look so sweet on your car. I'm just torn between the two, now. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

You do use your stock lug nuts and have the option of using your stock black lugnut covers, the CE style (I have these), or aftermarket SLP chrome covers. I am not sure which F-body you have but you may use the "ABS", "WS6", "Silver Bird CE" centercaps or apply firebat decals on the stock covers of your choosing. As far as finish goes, the wheels do have a year long warranty but the overall quality on three of the wheels was top notch. One had a deep dig on the face, which may have happened during shipping, but it was replaced within a few days (Gene let me run around on the bad one until the new one arrived). I have read about AFS wheels and was also torn between the two. I have no reason to doubt the quality of AFS wheels but I also have never seen a black set. I just drove down to the local dealer to check out the GM CE wheels.
I hope this answers your questions I you have any more just slap them up here. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

Re: CE Wheels on Red Formula
Black wheels are cool <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
Now put a nice dark tint on your windows to match those sinnister black wheels! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: CE Wheels on Red Formula
VAWJ,
Thanks so much for your help.
I have ordered the CE Wheels from Gene over at Phoenix. He told me about your story with the damaged wheel. That was cool of him to do that. I've got a buddy with an SS and he was in a similar situation with his chrome 5 spoke SS wheels. They were loosing pressure slowly because of a defect near the tire bead (where the tire and the wheel met). Anyway I won't even begin to tell you about the hassle both they (SLP) and the dealership (Lone Star Chevrolet in Houston) gave him.
Yeah, I have no reason to doubt AFS’s quality either but I wanted them in black with the Pontiac “V Crest”. And the center caps with this logo only come in silver. This means that I would have to paint them from silver to black.
Again thanks so much for the info you provided.
P.S. I’m gonna use the Black Lug Nut Caps <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Yeah, Gene is a great guy to deal with. I think you made the right decision. Post some pics with the black covers. I like to see what that looks like.
