MPP2 question

MPP2 question I've had my MPP2 for a few months, but have not yet installed it. I'm pretty stupid with electrical wiring, so I need some install help. I want to put the switch in my ashtray. can I wire it to the astray light, or is that too weak? Also, where is a good place to ground it, and what is a butt splice? I read the instructions from Keith's site, but I'm still lost. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
