Autometer ultimate playback tach...impressions!
pros:
1) big 5" tach...very easy to see.
2) comes with autometer mini shift light that mounts easily to the tach and is very adjustable ( and this little bastard will have you seeing stars its so bright if your looking right down the light tube when it goes off ). Shift light plugs right into tach.
3) Tach has a little control button interface, and you can adjust many options from that. Shift points .. burnout settings, playback setups etc.
4) Tach was very easy to install, and came with extra length wire...no splicing anywhere needed.
Cons:
1) The instruction manual is kind of sparing.
2) probably more settings in the tach setup than most average weekend racers need
3) the damn thing has too many plugs out the back. One is just there, and the instruction set says "plug not used"...well then why put it there.
It also has a plug to hook to a computer printer to printout the playbacks. All in all...kind of alot of clutter. The size of some of the plugs means you would have to cut a damn big hole in the panel to route them in. I opted for cutting the plugs out, and soldering/heat shrink wrapping the wires.
4) illumination..kinda sucks, and since I bought the tach several months ago..I think they now offer the exact same tach with a night glow backing.
All in all I really like it. I have heard from people that some year models the stock tach really lags. well let me just say this...with just our little playing so far... OUR JAWS HIT THE FLOOR when we saw how bad the stock tach lagged behind the new tach... it was freaking unreal!!!! When just quickly rapping the throttle a little, the motor would turn up to like 4k rpm on the new tach ( which has very fast response )...the stock tach was lucky to achieve a reading of 2.5k rpm.
anyways just though I would share.
