Free High Rear End Mod !!!! Long
Well I for some reason had a '00 Z28 with the rear high as can be. Well I decided to do something about it. I have SLP LT's so really lowering it was out of the question. So this is what I did. First of all someone told me about this and all I did was take digi pics of it while I did it and I could throw something together if someone wants to host this simple mod or post it else where.
Anyway.
If you get bored on day like I did I decided to look at the rear end and the coils. If you look up to the top of the coil or spring you will see this massive rubber spacer. Ithink some of you are already getting the idea.
I first jacked up the back and secured with jack stands on the rear frame. and just get the car high enough to take the rear wheels off.
I pulled the wheels
I then disconnected the rear shocks from the bottome only. I left the jack under the rear end of course. I then disconnected teh rear sway bar.
Once this was done I lowered the floor jack and the rear came down with it. The jack came to a complete stop, I grabbed the spring and with alittle work it came right out. I then grabbed the spacer which was stuck in there on one side and and the other side fell right out.
Instead of heating (i don't like) or cutting ( I really don't like) I got a peice of old garden hose, and spayed some WD-40 in it and cut about 5 inches off, and slid it through the spring on the top. This way it provided a cushin and it did not wear so bad. There is a plastic piece up there that also helps to isolate noise, but the hose will do just fine. Then just reverse that order and reinstall. Do not put the big rubber spacer in there other wise you defeat the purpose. I lowered it roughly 3/4-1 inch in the rear. I used my figures for a gauge I could fit almost 5fingures between the fender and my wheels. I can now barely fit 3-4. It leveld the car somewhat and I have absolutlely no added noise with the spacer gone. The car sits level now which looks much better.
BTW, it is reversable too. Just have to take or cut the hose off and reinstall the spacer. At first there was a difference in the way the car sat. It sat a little high due to the position of the springs when I repositioned them. I drove on it for about 30 miles and you can't even tell now that springs have positioned themselves.
