would a shift light even fit in there??? i mean the hole it would but the depth of the space behind it??? that would be a cool place for a shift light.

Pretty easily. Took the cig lighter outta my m6 shift plate..tried pushing it in the auto console plate. White part of the cig lighter get threw the hole..but the plastic piece that snaps in does not. not even close! guess i'll open it up a bit.

a shift light in a place where you'd be better off looking at the tach?

No way man... Put a 100 watt H3 bulb with a 1" reflector there. You will notice it for sure.
