Default Cutting the gear shift rod '02 Formula

I really dislike the length of the gear shift rod on my 02 Formula (automatic transmission). Would there be any harm is cutting it with a grinder/dremel, say 1 inch shorter? I realize that inside the metal rod is a plastic rod that is engaged for shifting out of park. I presume that rod extends all the way down, but I thought I'd run it by those in the know before I start cutting. I could post a picture if it would help.

Just cut the outer metal stem carefully with a dremel then cut down the plastic inner part to the appropriate length (not to short or tall) to ensure it will engage. I did this to mine and cut it down about an inch, easy to do and looks better too.

not even remotely related to the topic, but I have always loved the look of your car, with the wheels and hockey stripe.
