Default newb question on adhesive glue

Not too familiar with upholstry; thought I'd ask in this forum. I've made a console for my aftermarket shifter. I'd like to create a different shifter boot than what I've got now - I noticed the glue in the leather shifter boot in the pic below (red arrows are pointing to it) and it looks really strong.

What are some of the stronger adhesives for gluing leather/vinyl to say MDF in you guys' experience? Thanks for any help/recommendations!

Slow-setting hot glue works well, but even better - contact/rubber cement. You apply the stuff to both parts, let it dry, then stick the pieces together. That's what is on there now.

Cool, thanks man. Didn't know regular rubber cement was strong enough. I have some books on custom interiors and they always say "apply some adhesive" but they don't tell you what kind of adhesive they're using. I think one mentioned 3M Super 77 for one application but other than that I couldn't find any other product names.

I trust ls1tech more than I trust my local fabric store HAHAHAHA.

I found an fbody link where a dude wrapped a ton of his interior using DAP Weldwood contact cement. I think I'll get some of that, like Al 96 Ram Air said. Seems heavy duty enough, even for headliner.

hmmm...anyone know where to get this Dap Weldwood stuff? Went to Home Depot and Lowe's and neither of them carry it. Do you guys just order it online?

Really? I wonder why...

I bought gallons of the stuff at my local Home Depot. They carry small cans, big cans, even low VOC (waterbased, I think) stuff.
