Bringing paint back from the dead Have a 98 Mustang GT that looks like it has no clearcoat left on the hood. I'm sure there is some, but this car is DULL. Where do I even start with this problem?
If your nervous, I would say start less aggressive and work your way up until your satisfied with the result. If you go through the clear (factory clear usually isn't very thick) you will need re-paint.
Start at the BOTTOM of this list for least aggressive!
when you are satisfied, work your way back to the bottom of the list for your best finish.
wetsand 1000 grit (very carefull, removing clear pretty fast)
wetsand 2000 grit (you are removing clear qiuckly)
red compound (removes clearcoat)
white compound (removes clearcoat slowly)
cleaner wax (like Mothers)
sealent glaze (Klasse high gloss Sealant Glaze is like adding Acrylic clearcoat)
BTW Klasse(google) has an "all in one" product that you might be happy with, but it's still best to do each step seperate!
