What exactly is that mesh covering the foam that's exposed from removing the stock grille? I want to cover it up with the same mesh but maybe paint the mesh black.

Anyone else do anything to the stock grille (like the one with inserts)? How would inserts with the grille painted body color (pewter preferably)?
