Default New SS owner-need feedback

What's up fellas,

I just purchased an almost perfect condition 01' Blk SS. Some minor scratches but Monday I take her to a body shop for a touch up. It had most all the options except the SLP high perf-exhaust 3' pipes, "SS" floor mats, Rear deck "SS" mat and Engine plaque. But this minor stuff is not that important to me. I did order the engine plaque at $50.00. It would appear to me that under extreme heat from the engine block would make the plaque discolor or possibly melt. Has anyone had this happen? I also got the better air-lid. I also installed an 80-series Flowmaster muffler and so far I am very satisfied with the sound and car. I was thinking about a complete Borla or GMMG system but right now the stock is good for me. This SS is strickle a pleasure. I became interested in the Z-28s back in 1979 when I was just a kid and a neighbor of mine bought a new blu/wht Z-28. He took me for a ride and I was hooked. The power, styling, American engineering was just awesome. I finally bought a blk 79' Z-28 in 1988 with a 350. I had to sell it though for financial problems. I have a lot of questions and I'm hoping you experienced guys can help me out. I promise to give back to this message board when I become more familiar with my SS and the "SS addiction"! I need to recommend a battery tender to you guys and I feel it's really worth it only if you don't drive it much.

First off I have my old airbox(stock) and my stock stainless steel muffler and can I get anything(money) for this stuff?

My questions,,,,,,,,,

- Stickers, I don't like em. The passenger seat belt sticker is off, sun visors and inside the passenger door area was an SLP sticker that was unreadable-I took it off. Now what about the Battery sticker, engine stickers, airbox lid warning sticker(special coolant)? Inside the drivers door well is the *service parts ID sticker*, under that one is *MFD by GM of Canada sticker* and *Tire loading info-vehicle weight sticker*. Can I remove these? I called SLP and they say the stickers give the car value.

-The birth certificate from SLP. Is it worth it? Did you frame yours?

-Dents and pings in the finish-How do you deal with this? A little scratch, do you live with it or try and touch it up and possibly risk making it worse?

-The Camaro SS dash plaque, does it look nice? wouldn't the extreme heat in the car on a hot summer day melt the glue and it then could fall off?

Thanks to all who will respond to my questions and BE GOOD TO YOUR SS!

Congrats on your new ride, I'll see if I can answer a few of your questions. The air box and muffler are worth next to nothing, the stickers will add no value to the car, birth certificate is'nt worth having, If you have and dings or dents there's what is known as Paintless repair, these guys can take out small dings without the need to be repainted the area, check with your dealer and see if they use this service. Your cars black so it's an easy color to touch up, get some of this stuff if you plan on touching up any spots.

It's HOT here and the dash plaque hasn't come off yet.Neither have the SLP emblems on the inside or outside.

Congrats on the new car.Hope you enjoy it as much as we do ours.

BTW-If your thinking about new exhaust we have the SLP loudmouth and it sounds GOOD. (if you like LOUD) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Hey there, congrats on the purchase. About the stickers, either leave them or take pictures to note their position before taking them off, in 20-30 years these cars will be looked at like the old musclecars of yesteryear, and decals and their position are crucial to a proper resto, so at least do whoever owns the car in 20-30 years a favor and take pics before you rip em off, so SLP is kinda right, they'll give the car value in the future. Same thing with your old original parts, I'd save them cause once again if that car is gonna be restored in the future, those parts are going to be wanted. And once again, with the birth certificate from SLP, save ANY AND ALL paperwork. Paperwork is so saught after with the old musclecars, but when they were new most of the owners thought the same thing and just tossed it all. I wouldn't go as far as to frame the certificate, but just keep it nice and safe. Good Luck

Don't remove the decals in the doorjambs. They're irreplaceable! GM will not reproduce any decals that are car specific. The decals in the engine compartment have part numbers and can be ordered at any dealership. If you want to get rid of them, buy another set and store them for the next owner.

There's another option to buying the dashplate from SLP. You can get these which have your engine specs on them. Cool! http://www.afterthoughtsauto.com/cusdasplat.html

First off, welcome to the board and congrats on the new car!

Old, parts, kinda useless, but you could try selling them on the classifieds.

Stickers - in the engine compartment ditch them. Some of them are a tamper resistant typ and will leav a heavy layer of goo behind. Use Goo Gone or similar product to remove the residue, be careful with what you use. The paint in the engine compartment is not very durable.

Door Jamb Stickers - the GM onnes as Mark state cannot be purchased again. I would definitely say LEAVE them! The SLP door jamb stickers, can be replaced, but the one on the passenge side door will tell, you and future owenrs what SLP options came on the car, may add a little value.
The battery looks a little naked without a decal on it.

Dents and dings, - Paintless dent repair. There is aplace out here called Dent Busters, they do great work!

Plaque, get the Afterthoughts version! SWEET

Have fun!
