Use VHT paint, you can find it AutoZone. Some guys have painted them without taking them off the rotors but I'd suggest you remove them from the rotors. Just remove the two bolts that hold the caliper to the backing plate, clean them off with a good cleaner, mask everything off that you don't want painted then use a coat hanger to hold the caliper up while you paint them. Another good suggestion would be to cover the car while you paint, that way you won't run the chance of getting over spray on the car. I'm sure other's will you more details on what it takes to do this mod, good luck on your project.

I am going to be painting mine as soon as I get my caliper decals from afterthoughts auto. I would really like to take the calipers off, but I don't know how to bleed the brakes. Anyone have detailed instructions?

I hope I didn't give you the idea you needed to remove them from the car, we need someone to explain this better then me...I must be doing a bad job of it.

You didn't give me the impression that I'll need to remove the calipers. I'm a little nervous about painting anywhere near the car. I'll mask everything off, but the last thing I want to do is get spray paint on my car. I can't stand a water spot let along a shot of paint. Just a little nervous here since I've never painted anything. What would you recommend covering the car up with? I guess I could use old blankets or something.

Any and all suggestions are welcome...

Plastic tarp, old blanket etc, just make sure you cover all of the car and you should be good too go. You want to tape everything off in the wheel well area using tape and newspapers, I would also suggest you practice on an old coffee can or something like that first, follow the directions on the spray can and you'll have good results, another thing I would do is spray the calipers outdoors when there's no wind. Oh another thing if you want to drive 80 miles I'll help you.

well, i painted mine, but i didnt have to remove the calipers... i read it on a website, but i forgot which one, but u can put a grocery bag around the rotors and stuff it underneath the calipers and it will protect the rotors from paint. but in all honesty, if you do get paint on the rotors, it will come off. take it for a drive and ress the brakes and it will come off. just a tip.

That is true, but I remember someone on here mentioning that when you do that it junks up the brake pads. I guess it doesnt matter all that much but with a little extra effort you could mask up the rotor. Im doing mine probably this weekend or next and Im going to spray the hats of the rotors, just for the hell of it until I can get some AutoZone or Eradispeed replacement rotors.

Speaking of which Im buying a dremel to do some light sanding on the caliers to remove some old spray paint the previous owner put (for whatever reason) on the them... anyone know what grit sandpaper I should use? and also once sanded, should I just run some water over them to run off the dust or can I use a can of air (like DustOff)?

I'll be painting my calipers shortly and have followed read most of the (numerous) posts here. One good suggestion was to use tinfoil to mask off difficult to reach areas since it is easy to keep in place.

Good luck with the spraying.

Thanks for all the help Al. If I run into some problems while doing it I may page you here.

I think the only thing missing in "Al's Garage" is a dyno. LOL!

Anyway, here's the site where the guy covered the rotors with grocery bags. There are several other installs/mods listed also. http://ls1.fbody.com/

This guy polished his instead of painting. http://www.bambeezer.com/formula/calipers.htm
