Default Paint / Wax help

Can someone please give me some advise to make my paint look better until i get it painted?
Its been driven cross country many times and has a few rock chips and a few scratches not very deep but noticable.
It also sits out and gets dusty and rained on from time to time so its got some water spots.
So does anyone have any tips or tricks to help me make my baby look as good as she can for now till i get her painted?
Thanks!

This may be stating the obvious but...

Wash it down with dish soap.
Use bug and tar remover to clean behind wheels etc.
Touch up all chips. A match cut to a point or a tooth pick works well, be careful to get the paint only in the chips (after wou've cleaned any wax etc. out of the chip).
Clay bar using Zaino or Mothers (or your choice)
Use 3M finesse swirl mark remover on scratched areas.
Wash again
Polish
Use z5 polish or equivalent to hide remaining swirl marks.

Hope this helps!

For a car that sits outside I'd suggest using some of the Mothers products, http://www.mothers.com/products/prod...paintprod.html . The Paint Chip Repair works great on paint chips, the kit dosen't include touch-paint. The directions say you can polish out the touched-up area after two hours but I would let it dry for 28/48 hours, that way the paint will be good and hard and won't rub out to easy. A few Mothers products I think that are worth looking at are, Carnauba Cleaner Wax, car wash, clay bar, and when you get the paint looking like you want wax it with Pure Carnaba Wax. The paint chip repair can also be used to remove those scratches, there's only 2oz. of the polish so don't over use it.

A few items I use when drying/polishing the car are a California Water Blade, a real chamois and 100% cotton towels, good luck.

Think about what you plan to use after you get it painted. If you want something that will shine, is durable and provides protection, then Zaino is the best.

Go ahead and fix the chips and start using Zaino and see how you like it. I'll bet you end up using it after the car is painted.

thanks for all the tips!
now i have to go find a bottle of navy blue metallic paint to fix all these paint chips.
anyone know where to get some? could i get this from the dealer?
Ive used zaino before and we did a wax off a while ago with zaino against mothers, meguiars and a few other brands and we all were not impressed with zaino.
I know it could have been the person waxing with zaino not knowing how to do it properly but we were out there all day and that was the car that looked the worst!

i dont know if this holds true for the NBM paint, but my moms toyota avalon had a white pearl metallic paint and when it got into a fender bender, we had to paint the entire car cus the paint wouldn't match up. something about the paint always being unique. since your car is metalic also, that paint touch-up might not do the trick. it is my experience that all metallic paints are unique.

jsut my 2 cents

Yea I heard that about metallic paints too... but eventually it will be totally painted.
I just want some fix to make it look a bit better.
Although all the road rash my car has on her is all stories about where shes been!
I mean how many of you guys can say their cars have been driven coast to coast, cross country 5 times or so in over 25 states?
I have 33,000 miles on the car and they're all road trip miles!! So maybe I'hll just leave the rock chips since they add character! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
So if anyone has any tips for fixing metallic paints lemme know!
Thanks everyone!
