Default LATEST MOD COMPLETE!!! Hide the hose!

No not that hose!

The ugly Air Tube that runs along the driverside fenderwell. After being inspired by our Resident Mod Psychos, Rob and Steve, I descided to tackle hiding the air hose.

It wasn't that hard, just tedious cutting and mating all the peices of hose to get the right shape, and to minimise the conflicts with the black plastic fender liner. Here's the end result! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

<img src="http://members.aol.com/shudbdrwg/images/no-pipe13.jpg" alt=" - " />

I had already hidden the little air filter for the air pump, although the location is not very good if it ever rains, since the water can get to the filter through the driving light. But my car doesn't ever see rain, so I have no worries. The left over piece of hose was cut up to elongate the remaing hose. I used a dremel with a carbide cutting tip to cut the odd shaped hole in the fender well, once satified with the size hole, I touched up all the edges with sand paper and red paint to match the car. Once dry, fed the hose though the fender and spliced it (4 cuts) together with the main hose under the cowl. I strapped the hose and cable to the underside of the fenderwell with a zip tie and a self tapping screw. Getting the hose in just the right position so that the fender liner will go back in is tricky, but it all fits!

Enjoy, And thanks to Steve, Rob and Todd for the inspiration! If you descide to tackle this project yourself, I claim no responcibility for your outcome.

What is the air system used for?

Is it really not needed?

As for yanking the air system, it is an emissions requirement, how important who knows but it is staying, since my car must remain emissions compliant. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

The AIR system is an electric pump that sits under the drivers side front fender. When the car is started the AIR pump pumps air into the exhaust system so that the car doesn't run so rich on cold start up. When the engine is at operating temperature it shuts off, or when you start the car and it is already hot it doesn't come on.

Removing the AIR system cleans up the engine bay, removes weight, and makes it easier to work on the engine. You will get an SES code unless you have that code deleted with LS1 Edit. You will also need to get some block off plates for the EGR and AIR pump flanges on the manifolds or headers.

how do you guys do the wire mod? I did it by just roaling them down the inside of the fender. The only problem is that they are a little close to the exhaust manifold...... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

I could really use some pics/instructions on how other people do it.
