I use to work in an automotive plastics factory we did this all the time to door panels when they would be good but get scuffed or scratched. You can use a propane torch too they are cheaper and easier to use (the little blue ones with the ingnitor head from wal-mart)

Get one of those and a white scotch brite pad or two. Pass over the scratch and scuff from about 4-6 inches back, it should go away and then get like a glossy shiney look. then you take the scotch brite pads and rub the area lightly and it will fad and dull it back down.

Works like a charm!

It works on the plastic interior panels like the doors parts, kick panels A-Pillars, trunk panels, hatch.. all of that.

Pretty much the whole entire ABS plastic part of the interior.

my tech teacher taught us how to do this in shop class, works very well. also if the plastic is broken you can use a seperat pice of plastic and "weld" it back together, then sand it down and they sell texture blocks to blend it all together. i was amazed how he made the panel look! good tread with some good information that im sure WILL help people, as long as they do it correctly lol.

I have used a heat gun on my windshield wiper plastic. Just clean up well first and heat up till you see it get a wet look. Just dont go overboard and your o.k..

This is a nice little trick if you have light scratches on interior plastics or faded cladding. If you have ever slightly burned some exterior trim while using a buffer this works too. A heat gun is much easier to conrol and not warp the plastic.

So those exterior plastics aren't painted? Or does the slight melting of the plastic not affect the paint itself?

The molding and bumper in the videos are color impregnated from the factory. Similiar to the door moldings on our cars, just a different type of plastic. The heat creates a chemical reaction with the plastic which in turn makes it look darker. You can however melt/warp the plastic if you arent careful.
