Default Making the trunk look decent with no carpet?

I'm in the middle of doing some weight reduction on my car. The car didn't come with any of the interior "plastic" from the rear seat back. So there were no speakers, trim, etc, and nothing holding the trunk carpet in. It looked awful with the carpet just kinda sitting in there, so I ripped the carpet out (about 2lbs worth for anyone doing weight reduction who might be interested). I now have a bare trunk, which doesnt look all that bad to me, but looks a bit ghetto to anyone not interested in drag racing. I daily drive this car in the summer, and do the odd car show, and was wondering if anyone has ever done anything to make the trunk/rear seat area look a little more presentable after removing everything. I was thinking of grinding down all the seam sealer crap and painting everything black to match the exterior of the car.

Any input and/or pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a pic

Also, does anyone know what the hell that wire hanging from my rear dome light is? The light works, but when I pulled the headliner, that was hanging off. WTF? Can I just remove it?

That wire could have been for an aftermarket alarm. Sometimes installers run wires to the dome light for door triggers to sense if the door is opening. Does it look like a factory wire? If it looks like someone put it there, I would just trace it back and pull it out if necessary.

I'm not sure if it's stock, this is my first time striping a car, sorry! Its quite thin, and seems to have no purpose, I'm just worried yanking it might f'k something up. I'll just snip it at the base. This car has so many odd things, you can tell its been worked over a few times. When I hauled the carpet out of it I found 4 of 5 connectors that weren't connected to anything! Everything on the car seems to work, so I have no idea what they are. I'll be starting another thread asking about all those! lol

yeah, could just be for alarm, see if you can trace it where it goes, if it doesnt go anywhere just cut it.
Also have you looked into Ozite? Its very lightweight carpet which will make everything look good but weighs almost nothing.

Heard about it, but never looked into it. The reason for all the weight reduction I'm doing right now is my new year's resolution was to pay down $2500 off my debt, so I won't be spending much on the car this race season Isn't Ozite fairly pricey?

And just buying new interior panels is easier said than done unfortunately. I live on a damned island, and while its not all that tiny (about 280 miles long), there's only a half dozen towns on it, and only about two that are big enough to be worth living in. The entire island has fewer people than most large cities. I have one of maybe 20 4th gen firebirds on the island (although 4th gen camaros are everywhere here), so you can guess how often we have one sitting in a wrecker here! If I were to put an interior in it, I'd have to order from a wrecker on the mainland, and then shipping starts getting to the point where its more expensive than its worth. So I need other options

The ozite carpet isnt expensive and is light weight. Im doing the same thing to my car now and the only thing i can think that wire would be to was a after market alarm system.

I'm sure you could find other things to take off your car rather than 2 lb carpet that makes the interior look like ****

Yeah, I'm sure I could too, however the carpet already looked like **** seeing as it was just sitting in the trunk, not held down by anything thanks to the fact that the car didn't have any of the plastic interior panels in it when I bought it.

Thanks for coming out though.

I think it looks worse with no carpet.

Yeah, I know it does, but it won't be going back in. The whole car has no carpet in it right now, so I'm not going to put carpet back in just the trunk. I think I'll just grind down all the seam sealer crap and paint it all black to match the outside.
