Help with emergency break handle removal
Make a long story short, I took my TA in for some warranty work and they scratched up the leather on the emergency break handle. They were nice enough to order me a new one, but instead of taking my car back so they could do more damage. The dealer told me I can bring in the handle and they will give me the new one. Slight problem with that, I CAN”T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IT OFF! I took the console apart and thought it might slide off the back of the metal. Well the metal is all one piece and it can’t slide off the front because the back of the handle is just an oval and will not fit. The second thing I can’t figure out is on the inside of the handle is what looks like a rivet that holds it in place. No screw head or anything. If anyone could help or has done thins before I would greatly appreciate some guidance, I really don’t want to take the car back to ANY deal ship if I don’t have to. The thought of an automotive tech beating on my TA as they drive it in and out of the lot just drives me NUTZ! I have also attached some pic’s. Thanks for the help! <img src="http://www.tandjnursery.com/ta_break.htm" alt=" - " />

Re: Help with emergency break handle removal
i had the same problem while trying to get the console off my 98 trans am. it appeared to be a triangle type head. are you getting a whole new assembly or just a new handle? the whole brake handle assembly is attached with only two bolts.

Re: Help with emergency break handle removal
I'm assuming they are just going to get me the handle that would be the cheapest option for them. I'm going to stop at the dealer tomorrow and ask them, see if they can tell me how. Thanks!
