If it aint broke dont fix it, LOL.

Agreed. Everything I've read says you have to sand or they'll turn out bad but I just VHT'd and cleared and they lookg reat and have held up well too.

I tried some of the vinyl tint from ebay and it has a nice gloss to it once installed. The only thing to keep in mind is that the text on tails will make the tint stick out in certain areas. Perhaps sanding the text until smooth will yield better results.
Indeed it will. Personally, I do that to all mine anyway when I wetsand and polish them. Its just one of those small things that bugs the **** out of me. I found it kinda hard to take sandpaper to my exports though.

^^I don't have blackouts now and I don't planning on doing so, but I would like to remove the lettering. Is it a similar process to removing oxidation on headlights?

I had window tint on my fog lights on my old 97. I really liked it. Here's a 20% tint

Yup. I just started with something like 600 to smooth them out (the slight seams where the different colors are in the lenses) and get rid of the letters, then went to 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, and then 2000, then polished them with a fine cut compound (using a buffer) if I remember right and they came out looking better than new.

and if you go with the 3M stuff you can do it for even cheaper if you just buy the material by the foot instead of precut pieces
