Strip the part of paint, etc.
Polish and remove rough edges
Plate in Copper
Polish again
Plate in Nickle
Polish again
Plate in Chrome
Another huge factor is how complicated the part is.. a flat part may be cheap as it can be buffed/polished on a huge wheel.. an intricate part (hood hinges) will cost many times that because it requires more detailed hand work in the polishing process. All the labor is in the various polishing steps.
I paid $70 to get my ABS bracket chromed because its a difficult part.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
And Steve, I know that they triple plate, copper, nickle, and chrome, but do they polish between each one?....see I was thinking that if the item was already stripped of the paint, and polished somewhat that the cost might be lower than if it was'nt.......I know that I just said that, but you both follow me correct?....I thought that once the surface was done with the polishing, they just plate from one vat to the next and that it did'nt take near as long as the actual working of the piece, polishing....maybe I should ask more questions of my shop, eh?...
