Default Interior Wrappers..

Im not sure what all pieces I wanna do.. All of my parts are dyed or painted.

I bought 3 yards of black vinyl looking fabric today and plan to re-do my door panels since I didnt do them so well the first time around.

I dont wanna do the WHOLE interior but I would definatly like to do some stuff to give it a more modern feel. I was thinking about doing the door panels maybe the A-Pillars..

What else? Im never in the rear of the car really so I wouldnt actually think of wrapping those big pieces beside the passenger seats. The T-Top plastic might be an option but I dont know how to remove it? I tried when I went to paint it and couldnt figure it out.. didnt want to break it so I just quit.

Anyone have any advice or step-by-step info on wrapping laying around.

Bonus Points for links with pictures.

The t-top plastic is quite simple . 1st , theres a clip on the back of the handle you need to release to pull the handle off . Then theres a srew on each side . Then u can take it off . IT has a couple retainer tabs so it doesnt just pull off , you gotta do a little manuvering . Easy stuff though , nonetheless .

T-tops gets of by pulling a little clip holding the handle on. Then you have two screws, one on each end, on the t-top plastic panel.

A-pillars is, when you near the foot area of the pillar a real PITA. You really need to warm and strech the vinyl out to it's limit, you can't do this with regular vinyl you need to use some super strech one for this.

Heres a t-top piece I wrapped last night . Its not vinyl though , its the knit type headliner material used int he newer cars . Wrapping my headliner , t-top panels and like the newer cars the a-pillar trims .

I couldnt capture the texture of the knit well with my camera , I admittedly didnt try very hard though

You need tp cut a small hole in the center and then make 4 small slits so it conforms and wraps around to the backside . That hole barely leaves you enuff material to wrap around though , so be very small on your slits , Do the holes last . Wrap the whole panel , the worry about it . Apply glue from the back of the hole , then finish it off . One more tip .....the first thing you wrap is the rescess cup for the handle . Only spray glue in that cup and the corrosponding portion of the material going in there , leave the rest of the panel free of glue for now. Once it sets up tto tack , lay the material on the flat part of the cup and work to the corners and up the sides . Once you get the shape of the cup laying good , the the concept here to stretch the material out of the cup to make a nice smooth tranisition with no wrinkles or problems with bunched up material . You should have no problems doing that way with stretchy material , hell I used 1/8 foam backed cloth which is not stretchy at all and got it to conform right .

GL .

Door panels are next for me too Do not attempt this kinda disassembly unless u have a plastic welder , theres not an epoxy in this world that would hold everything permenant back together .

On your TA panels though , u can remove the leather insert easily to get a more finished off job wrapping it . Jus cut the top portion of the plastic tabs off . And cut them off in a way you can use plastic epoxy to glue them back on once you put the insert back in .

Cool thanks for the tips.. Ive already had the doors apart and done the inserts once but I plan to re-do them.

Im just thinking about doing the door panel itself now. I think it would look give the car a better feel.

LT4vert I got my T-Top Plastics off today.. I cut a piece to put on it but what did you do for the backs and sides? how did you fold it over? maybe im totally overthinking this on how to do it. Do you have any pictures of the corners and such and how you did it?

The reason I ask is I tried to do my Center Console lid and it looked REALLY good except the bottom edges and the corners.. I couldnt get the edges to stop bunching up near the back and the corners looked BAD all bunched up and or folded.

I realize maybe I should have just left this piece alone and now Ive been scrubbing the adhesive off with my nail for the last hour. Its not trashed but I wasted a good size piece of vinyl and a lot of spray and my time and I feel like I failed lol.

I wanna keep going but man Im not ready to screw up more of this stuff its expensive

When your wrapping around tight corners you need to cut slit reliefs on the portion thats getting wrapped over . Cut a triangle like slit so the material doesnt overlap when u wrap in around . Heres some pics of the backside of mine ....hope it helps . Get the entire front done before u start wrapping it around . Step by step .

Maybe take a something small and square and practice cutting reliefs and stretching around the corners . You really need to pull it tight around the corners and in some cases add a little heat . That way to can get a feel without screwing anything up .
