Default Sears buffer or PC7424....?

I recently bought a Sears 6-inch buffer(machine) for $30.00 and it comes with terry cloth bonnets and a few blue colored application pads. These blue pads look and feel rough....... so is it ok to use on the car finish or is the foam much better? My local Pep Boys has the foam pads made by Turtle Wax.

Also..... a lot of guys on the now non-existing, pay per site, Autopia.com recommend the Porter Cable-7424 buffer-the high speed machine at about $110.00(at Lowes)..... is this a good investment or is it better to buff by hand and or kepp the cheap Sears buffer?

Thanks

I bought buffer @ Auto Zone awhile back, talked w/bodyshop buddy & he made me take it back!!!!!!!!!!! Said it would scratch clear coat. Got Zaino products instead...put it on by hand an take it off same way. Hard to beat, just my .02*

get the porter cable..... you won't regret it..... you can still use Zaino products though if you want - they're what I use (no pics cuz no digital cam or scanner )

go to http://www.autopia.ws/ and do a search.... you'll be impressed by the results several of us are getting.

I think Mequiars has a polisher like what I'm talking about but I don't have there web site. I worked for G.M for 33 years before retiring and 20 of those were in the paint shop, unless you know what you're doing I'd stay away from any polishing wheel. My question to you is why do you think you need to use a polisher or buffer?
