Default Replacing automatic shifter handle

I have a 2002 TA with an A4. Personally, I think the T handle for the auto is a bit plasticky and bulky. I would like to replace it with a sporty leather ****. Has anyone done this ? Please let me know. That plastic T handle has got to go. I love the look of the Corvettes with the automatics. Not only does it have a leather boot but it has a nice handle as well. Would it be possible to do this with my Trans Am :

This is a corvette automatic. I would be really happy if this could be done to my TA.

Any opinions out there ?

I don't think you can use a Corvette handle. I believe the shaft size is different. Another option would be this: http://www.cau-llc.com/shiftknobinstall.html

It doesn't necessarily have to be that exact **** but just a different one. Hell, I'll even trade the camaro **** for my TA. That adapter would actually raise the **** from .5 - 1 inches.

If you mean the **** pictured below I think this is the part number. 12563173 gmpartsdirect lists it for $30. But I think it's vinyl not leather.

personally, i like the t-handle. Gives me something to rest my hand on and its a hell of a lot better than the camaro one <img border="0" alt="[barf]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_barf.gif" />

The T-Handle in my Formula is leather. If all you are interested in is getting leather, then look around for the leather T-handle. Sorry, I dont know the part number, but a Dealer can probably help you out there.

You also might want to replace the plastic sliders with a leather shift boot. Its much cleaner looking IMHO. Just search this site for "shift boot" and you'll find a wealth of information.

Ok guys don't get me wrong, but I have a lether T handle as well. It still looks plasticky though. I guess you people thought my whole handle was plastic. Any auto detailers out there that could do the shift boot ?

You can put in the shift boot yourself for $30. Search this site for info on "shift boot". I and others have posted write-ups before.

I have a '99 Camaro A4. Fierce, I'll trade you my shifter handle for yours as long as your is in good shape like mine. How do I take my handle off? My handle looks like this one.

Fierce,
The only pic I have is of the finished product
<img src="http://users.rcn.com/my57chevy/shiftboot.jpg" alt=" - " />

Plowtown,
1. Make sure the e-brake is on.
2. Turn key to on position but DONOT TURN ON CAR.
4. Shift into 1st
5. There is a staple in a slot in the front of
the shift handle. Remove the staple and pull
the handle up.
6. reverse the process to re-attach the handle.
