Default Firebird vs. Trans Am seats.

Looking to upgrade the seats in my Camaro and was going to buy some TA seats. I found a set of Firebird seats for sale about an hour away from me and the owner says they are the same as Trans Am seats, he sent me pictures but it's hard to tell from them if they are the same. So before I drive an hour there and back can someone tell me if there is a difference between Firebird and Trans Am seats?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Trans Am seats have the hard plastic covers on the seat backs and the Firebird seats don't.

I'm actually running '99 Firebird seats in my '98 Camaro. I even found the matching upholstery and had my door panels done to match!

Pics attached.

Do you like the Firebird seats better?

Yes! The Firebird seats have more support and are much nicer, IMO, than the Camaro seats. They look and feel great and it's not something you see very often...at least not in cloth, which I prefer.

The '97-'99 Firebird cloth seats are a dark grey and the '00-'02 Firebird cloth seats are closer to black (ebony).

The ones I'm looking at are out of a 95, but they look very similar to yours.

Again, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the difference will be in the fabric pattern in the '95 seats vs. the '97-'99, but I think the grey will still match.

For me, it was a "no brainer" decision. A guy about 2 hours from me posted up my set of seats for $100 picked up and I jumped on it. One of the rear buckets was torn, so I actually had to spend $75 on eBay to get another one, but I still came in under $200. I spent another $150 having my door panels recovered, so I still feel it was a VERY nice mod, ESPECIALLY for how little I spent!

not in the LT1 years. i believe all leather seats in the LT1's were AQ9 with the "Accordian" bolsters while the later years had the seats above as a "base" leather t/a seat and the AQ9's were optional. I believe in the formulas the AQ9's had flat headrests like the later T/A headrests while the T/A's had the large round headrests.

here's the seats out of a 95 T/A (they have been reupholstered so the color is a little lighter) the formula had these seats with the headrests in the pic i quoted

^pretty much what he said.

But in the most basic sense, they are all the same design. Some are cloth, some are leather, some are leather with the pneumatic side bolsters, some have hard plastic backs, but all the same really

And FWIW, a trans am IS a firebird. Firebirds just came standard with cloth-leather optional, and Trans Ams came standard with leather.
Just decide if you want leather or cloth.

Thanks guys, I will go look at them it's worth the drive. They are cloth and (according to the seller) in great shape, he's asking $125 for the whole set, front and rears.

I wish the Camaro seats had the fishnet map pockets like some of the T/A's had.

Anybody do TA door panels on a Camaro?
I'm doing the seats tomorrow and going to see if the door panels will work, IIRC I have heard they will fit.
