How do you remove headrests? I have a 1996 Trans Am with the big pillow like headrests and want to remove them to swap for the headrests found in the 97 and up Firebird/Trans Am's
Question is, how do i remove the headrests? i thought i could remove them by pulling straight up but that doesn't work. Thanks for any help.

You have to pull the back of your seat off. There's 6 screws IIRC. 2 on the bottom, 2 on top, and 2 on the side (covered by plastic caps). That's for mine, yours might be different. The headrests are held in by metal spring clips. Pull them out and the headrest comes right out.
And just so you know, 97's came with those too. Only LS1 cars got the rectangular headrests.

I hope you have the seats that have the removable back, otherwise it is way more work than it is worth.
Also, just a final nitpick, some 98 LS1 cars had the pillow head rests too. It turned me away from them when I was shopping.

Thanks for the replies, ill take a look at the back of the seat and see if i can remove it as well as the head rests.
