Painting Rear Axle
If I was going to paint it again I would still pull it so as to do it right.
I'm going to assume that you want to leave your rear axle attached. If you haven't already tried... you should be able to get enough leverage by jacking up the car and supporting the car by the chassis with jack stands and not the axle. This will alleviate tension on the springs and should seperate the axle from the underbody enough to gain access to the top of the axle housing so that you can finish painting.

I will wait for warmer weather to put a 2nd coat and finish it up. Again thanks
I used it a while ago to touch up spots on a beater, and the rust never came back on that 1980 Bu.
I painted my 9" with etching primer and GM paint and it matches the car... www.ls1tech.com/psjpics
For those that have painted the rear axle with POR 15, how did you reach the top of the pumpkin. I have painted mine and BTW POR15 makes it look great, but the top of the pumpkin is very difficult to reach. Any tips?

With the car on stands (obviously) and lying underneath and to one side of the pumpkin, I used a small mirror in my left hand and the brush (sponge type) in my right. By sort of 'hugging' the pumpkin while lying down I was able to see everything that I had previously missed. It does take a little hand eye coordination and what Andy said...watch your skin!! I also used rubber dishwashing gloves. Have fun!!
