Default Aviation Sun Visors (Think Boeing 747)

Like many of you, my sun visors are starting to show age. I found a company that makes visors for the aviation industry. Their name is Rosen, and they make visors for light planes (Cessna, Piper, etc), as well as commercial aircraft (Boeing, Airbus, etc.). These visors are made from a polarized material, and are mounted to a set of billet aluminum arms. These can be adjusted at various angles, and look really trick.

A few years ago they made a set for the f-body (see link below).

http://www.rosenvisor.com/auto/detai...SubCategory=26

I called them up last Friday, and unfortunately they dont offer the f-body visors anymore . They do however make visors for a number of other vehicles, and you can see the list of models they cover in the next link.

http://www.rosenvisor.com/auto/insight4pg.pdf

My question is this: Given the triangular mount of a '93-'02 f-body visor, would any of their current offerings work in our cars?

it looks like the saturn sci ones they have may work, because you could adjust the angles pretty much in 3 directions, and they're the triagle mount...? but i was just staying within the GM vehicles, thats probly yr best bet...

I didn't see Saturn on the current list (you might have been looking at the first link, which is discontinued). The only GM products they presently have are Trucks & SUV's. I know the f-body mount has its fasteners equally spaced 1 1/2 " in a triangular pattern. Some of the photos from the updated web-site appear to show triangular mounts.

Weird, never seen anything like this. I'd ask the company directly which one mounts the same if I were you.

$250 seems a bit expensive anyway. Maybe hacking up your old visors you could make something QUITE similar yourself and a far better price. On another note, if I just wanted tinted glass, I'd tint the top of the windshield and/or put some sunglasses on....Oh, I did and I do. I think solid is the way to go.

Classic Industries sells OEM replacements for 143-155 depending on year and texture, as weel as if its a lighted mirror option. Go to their site and download their Camaro & Firebird catalog FREE and look at all the stuff they offer. ALL KINDS OF STUFF. They will even ship the same printed catalog to you. I have two of them. Its about a 450 page catalog...All Camaro and Firebird.

Stealership quoted me $122 each for OEM. Wonder what is special with Classic?

I did. The mount for the Dodge Charger is very similar, triangular bolt pattern spaced at 1 1/2 ". The mount is however slightly larger than the f-body, and would have to be machined.

$250.00 for OEM sounds expensive too. That's why I was searching for other options. Your suggestion of fabricating my own may be my best bet.

i think these are really cool; never seen a shade like that, or visors with such nice aluminum mounts..

i wonder how those shades compare in direct sunlight; i have a tint strip on my windshield so usually when Im using my visors its because of low-angle-sunlight...

lovin the sig

I'm tempted to try and fabricate my own out of tinted plexi/lexan. Anybody feel like donating a set of crappy mirrors?

Here are the technical drawings for the version for the Dodge Charger / Chrysler 300. They have the same 1 1/2" bolt pattern. The bolt holes for the f-body are right next to the edge of the mounting bracket. The mounts for the Dodge visor would have to be trimmed down a little. There is a machine shop around the corner from my house that shortened my Hurst Billet Plus Shifter, and re-threaded the stick. Perhaps they could do these visor mounts for me, but I'd rather buy a set that bolts right in place.

those are cool. But NOT cool enough for the price. Practicality is there. But when do FBody guys care about practicality anyways? LOL

I like how on that website it says "camero". But I'm just gonna stick with my sunglasses, they seem to work pretty well.

or just do a 5% window banner and delete your sunvisers all together for a much cleaner look.
