IDK if I would try to do anything to it other than see about what the dealership says. If they won't do anything about it, then I would look into ways to clean it up and get that mess off.

Yes, it's still under full bumper to bumper. Took it to the dealer last night. Talked to the service manager who said it's pretty common place and to hit it with some steel wool.

In this case however, given the truck is still so new, theres no way that should be as bad as it is. Likely a defective or shoddy chroming job.... I'd go for the replacement versus having to fix it. If its that bad already its only going to happen again and why should you be responsible for fixing a defective part over and over?

#0000 steel wool is actually great for polishing neglected chrome. I use it on exhaust tips with a little metal polish all the time and it works great.
In this case however, given the truck is still so new, theres no way that should be as bad as it is. Likely a defective or shoddy chroming job.... I'd go for the replacement versus having to fix it. If its that bad already its only going to happen again and why should you be responsible for fixing a defective part over and over?

it was probably due to a discrepancy in the chroming process. i grew up polishing the chrome on my dads harley. his bike god ridden hard and put up wet on a daily basis and i never saw rust on it like that.

My dad's '84 pickup has chrome bumpers and has been in the woods hauling out heater wood for the winter and to pull other people out who get stuck and theres not a single spot of rust on the bumpers. And it sits out in any and every type weather there is.

its not rust in the way you think of metal rustings, its the de iceing chemical oxidizing, its sitting ONTOP of the chrome on the bumper, unless the bumper has been damaged, gouged or anything it will come off with ease. just did it on my truck *canadian winter*
