removing hand painted thin stripes
removing hand painted thin stripes Previous owner of my car had someone "hand paint" black stripes down my doors/fenders very thin the size of your average pinstripe...the paint is on TOP of the clear, and it was not sanded before painted...the Gray color one came off easy with a can of "Oops" and a rag...the black is being a pain in the butt, ive heard I can 2000grit wet sand it? use gasoline? Graffiti remover, etc etc...any ideas without destroying my clear coat?
2000 grit wet. Sand woul ve the way to go but you'll have to re-polish the paint. You can try the graffiti remover but I'm not one to use gasoline on my paint.
Try this: take a razor blade and run one side along a strip of 220-320 grit sandpaper. 2-3 3" pulls will be enough. That'll roll the edge slightly to the opposite side. Flip it over and ben the blade slightly with tha rolled edge to the outside. Then drag that rolled edge along the stripe to knock it down a bit but not thru to the clear. Then try your cleaners.
