Weight?

It'll probably be easier for you to lose two pounds than worry about trying to remove that stuff.

haha, im tryin to gain weight (weightlifter), but it isnt the weight that really bothers me, its the uglieness factor, lol...btw, your car is mint, i wish mine was as clean as yours, but im tryin my best, and this is one thing i want to fix first did yours come w/ that stuff under your wheel wells? also, last winter i tried scraping it off w/ a chisel, and grinding it off w/ an air tool(grinder), and i gave up on the fact that it would take forever, and i would prolly do more damage to the metal than i would take that stuff off...if anyone has any clues on how to take it off efficiently, i would be greatly happy

Actually, I think GM's intention was for that stuff to be permanent. However, where there's a will, there's a way. Anything can be done but I'm pretty sure there's no easy way to remove it though. When mine gets dirty looking I just touch it up with some new stuff.

Best way to get it off is with an electric angle grinder with a wire wheel on it. I did the bottom of my malibu which is covered with this crap, the wire worked the best. If you use solvents it just dilutes the stuff into tar, then its a mess to get off.

If your looking to get the undercoating out for get cemicals.go with a wheel we call in the automotive industry a crud buster it is a wire wheel for cutting through undercoating and seamsealers but it go's down to bare metal.and then you have to put the proper corrison protection down before you paint.i would deal with it unless it's a showcar if you paint it plan on stone chips.

I have that crap under my car also. That is one option the dealer could/should have kelp!!
I hate the crappy way it looks and the person or whatever sprayed in under there got it everywhere I've gotten under my car just to see how it will come off and used a pick and man that crap is on there to stay so I just went and bought some 3M under coating in the can and sprayed it over the top of the factory crap - looks somewhat better, but still looks like crap to me. I've even thought about grinding it off and trying to repaint the underside to look like the factory underside painting where you see primer with over spray of the body color. I just don't know if I want to tackle something like that

Okay! Let me cut through the baloney here. You will need to go to an automotive paint and chemical supply store. You will need to ask the guy behind the counter for "Aircraft Paint Stripper." It is made by a company called Mar-Hyde. You will need to get a quality shop apron, rubber gloves (like you would have in a sandblasting booth), safety goggles, not glasses. You will need to buy it in 1 gallon cans (several). This sh*t is basically a high powered stripper, that will turn the undercoating into a slimy grease. You can wash it off, or wipe it off. It will burn you if it gets on your skin. So, I would keep a bucket of fresh water close by. You will need a scraper knife, a horse hair brush, because any plastic bristle brush will melt. Do not apply this stuff in the wind or a breeze. Don't sniff the can, it's like an acid. It will also remove the paint immediately, and leave you with bare metal. It will be more effective product than the crap sold in your Wal-Mart. It is sold in specialty places, under the assumption that the people using it, know what they are doing. Just make sure you get it all off, or you will have corrosion. It will take an eye for detail, and a couple of weekends. Don't touch anything like rubber or plastic, or it's goodbye. Hope I helped.

thanks a million guys....ill give all of your ideas a try, and see what works best,...the chemical stuff sounds good, but worries me cause i would die if i got it on my paint, lol...btw, bad 00ss...u had that stuff in your engine bay!?!?!?dang, i feel bad for you, i basically have it in my wheel wells, and in various places under my car, it was all over teh stock torque arm, etc ill try vern and/or airport stuff if the elbow grease tactic doesn work...i got some air tools, so maybe ill try them first, if i get too frustrated, ill try some chemical solvents...thanks again, and does anyone else have an opionin on this matter?

restoman, yep, they sprayed that junk all over my engine bay, and I do have it in my wheel wells and basically the entire undercarriage! I know, it is terrible...the engine bay stuff is not as deep and is easier to get off but man, under the car, its crazy. Plz post what Vern suggested, he will def. do it and could even paint ur undercarriage like the outside of our cars! Mine is a daily driver, but I would be willing to do it, esp. cuz this junk has really ticked me off, I'm a perfectionist and I'm really hating the idea that I cannot get under there to clean everything!

I am new to the site, and would like to thank everyone for
the fantastic information and help provided on this forum.
Anyway, I tried attacking the factory undercoat with kerosene
hoping to soften it to the point where I could wipe it off
(a real mess I know) It hasn't worked but it did make it
look brand new, mine looked like road dust. I just put
kerosene in a spray bottle and misted the wheel wells,
at least the undercoat looks brand new and maybe after
many applications it will soften up. just my 2 cents.
