My suggestion would be to attend some car shows and get a few ideas as to what things you like and might want for your own car. Most people are more than willing talk about their cars and give you advice on where to find things or how to go about working on them.
Don't do something to your car simply to gain attention, do something you like or want to do and go from there. I would also suggest doing some small things first until you truly know what your plan is for the car.
Most of all, just have fun with it!
